While we can’t tell you whether you should or shouldn’t get the flu shot, we can help guide you with some alternative ways to boost your immune system to help prevent getting sick this season!
Recent studies show that the major cause for influenza may be a vitamin D deficiency. Researchers believe that vitamin D increases the amount of antimicrobial peptides (the little molecules that are active against fighting bacteria, viruses, and fungi) in your lungs, and therefore offers more protection. Check with your doctor to see how much vitamin D you should be taking during the winter months.
Are you a garlic lover? Lucky for you, garlic has natural antifungal and antiviral properties, which can help boost your immunity!
Increasing Vitamin C is also very beneficial to immune health. It acts as an antioxidant, and antioxidants are crucial in fighting bacteria until they’re dead.
Avoid sugary beverages and foods, artificial sweeteners, and processed/fast food. Instead, fill your diet with fruits and vegetables, and nutritious whole foods. This will keep your intestinal tract working happy and healthy!
And as always, wash your hands properly and frequently, sanitize your work station, try to keep your hands away from your face/mouth, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and make sure to get plenty of sleep!
Stay well this season!
