About Dr. Bauer

Dr. Bauer became a partner at Optima Health in 2006. His practice includes Applied Kinesiology, and Total Body Modification. He also has training in nutritional counseling, digestive disorders, and neurology. Dr. Bauer has been trained by the Carrick Institute of Functional Neurology and has been certified by the American Functional Neurology Institute. (ANFI).

Dr. Bauer is an impassioned provider of functional medicine and chiropractic care whose patients drive from all over the state of Wisconsin to visit. About Dr. Goplin

Dr. Julie did her undergraduate work at UW-Eau Claire before starting chiropractic school in 2010. In 2013 she received her degree of a Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN, as well as her undergraduate degree in Human Biology. She began her career in Savage, MN as a relief doctor for another doctor who was on maternity leave, and two short months later began at Optima in April of 2014.

Dr. Julie has completed certifications in Nutritional Counseling, State of Wisconsin, American Functional Neurology Institute (AFNI), and Mastering Applied Kinesiology. She has also had numerous post graduate seminars helping her to serve patients of all ages and conditions. Her passion is truly helping her patients understand their health condition, and then teaching them how to move forward and overcome the obstacles in their health journey.

Dr. Julie’s roots are on the farm and still enjoys helping whenever she can. She enjoys playing sports, spending time with family and friends, and showing dairy cattle in the summers!

About Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens started with Optima Health and Vitality Center in June of 2012. Dr. Martens earned his Bachelors of Science from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN in 2011. Along with studying Applied Kinesiology, Dr. Martens has taken additional seminars and training in the treatment and prevention of sports injuries, sleep management, adapting chiropractic technique for the geriatric population, DOT screening, activator methods and flexion distraction.

“For many years I was very sick with digestive problems with other symptoms such as constant fatigue and migraines. I went from doctor to doctor and I never got a straight answer from any of them. Most of them said something along the lines of “you’re just stressed and anxious and you need to try less for good grades and learn better-coping techniques.” This was so frustrating to me because I wasn’t feeling sick from being stressed, I developed high anxiety and stress because of how terrible I felt on a daily basis.

My illness began interfering with my everyday life. I was too sick to go on field trips, I had to quit sports, and I wouldn’t spend time with my friends. My life felt like it was spiraling out of control and I thought I’d never get an answer about what was wrong with me. This all changed once I came to Optima Health and Vitality Center.

Unlike the previous doctors I had been to, as soon as I walked through the door, I felt comfortable and was treated very kindly. From the receptionists to the nurses to my doctor, everybody was so welcoming and friendly. After being asked about my symptoms they seemed confident right away that they could figure out what was wrong. This was such a relief after over a year of dead ends. They ordered some tests including a food allergy test. The results came back, and because my intestines were so damaged, my body was reacting badly to many foods, making me allergic to over 80 different foods. At first, this was discouraging because I thought I’d never figure out a good diet, and I wouldn’t be able to eat anything.

Doctor Martens was very optimistic, however, and was confident that following a restrictive diet until my intestines healed would allow me to eat many of that food again. He was right, and with their help, I am healthier than ever and following a still somewhat restrictive diet but am able to introduce some of the foods I was originally allergic to back into my diet. I don’t struggle as much with fatigue anymore, and rarely have headaches and stomachaches. It’s amazing to have my quality of life restored. I am so thankful for Doctor Martens and everybody at Optima Health for giving me back my life and my happiness!

Patrick Wagener, DC

Dr. Wagener graduated from UW-Platteville in 2016 after growing up in Janesville, WI. He began his chiropractic journey at Palmer College of Chiropractic and earned his degree of Doctor of Chiropractic in 2020. His first position was at a family-based chiropractic clinic in Janesville, where he honed his skills for two years healing patients of all ages.

Dr. Wagener chose to be a chiropractor to help connect patients to the mechanics of their body through natural healing to meet their own personal health goals. He believes chiropractic is both a medicine and a mindset aimed at optimizing bodily and mental functions.

When he is not at work, Dr. Wagener enjoys being outdoors, disc golfing, fishing, cooking, and working on cars.

About Amy

Amy started with Optima Health and Vitality Center in 2016. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2002 and has conducted psychotherapy services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Amy is also Optima’s Neurofeedback Manager and uses brain mapping and neurofeedback to help patients learn to regulate and improve their brain function to alleviate symptoms of various neurological and mental health disorders. Additionally, Amy offers energy healing sessions as a Reiki Master, as well as Healing Touch and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). As Amy works with patients in these many facets, she assists others in recognizing their own inner light and strength to restore hope and regain overall wellness.
